A window maximized another way is restored by the double click, as before.

Subtitle files beside the video now reach the television over DLNA, and the volume bar drops to zero when you mute.

When you cast over DLNA with a subtitle file chosen in the player (an .srt next to the video, one you added or one you downloaded), the television now gets it along with the film. • The volume bar follows the mute button. Muting now takes the volume bar down to zero, and turning the sound back on returns it to where it was. Dragging the bar up, or raising the volume with a key or the wheel, while the sound is off turns it back on — on a television as well as on this computer.

The player now says when Video upscaling is getting ready, instead of looking frozen.

• Video upscaling no longer freezes the picture each time the player starts. On Windows the Video upscaling mode needs ten seconds or more of preparation the first time the picture grows large enough for it to run, and the video stood still meanwhile — typically in the middle of resizing the window or going full screen. The player used to throw that work away when it closed and repeat it in every session; it now keeps it, so the pause happens once on a computer rather than every time.

A Strong upscaling mode draws in detail across the frame, and Video upscaling now sharpens as it enlarges.

New

• A strong upscaling mode that draws in detail. Upscaling in the Picture menu gains a Strong mode, which adds texture across the whole frame rather than only cleaning up edges. It is meant for video up to 720p; anything larger is upscaled as Video, and the menu says so. The Video mode itself now also removes noise and sharpens as it enlarges, at no extra cost.

Low-resolution video can now be upscaled by a neural network, for one file or a whole playlist.

A native speaker read the whole Chinese interface, and a handful of labels and hints now read the way a Chinese app would say them — among them the note in the hotkey editor when a key moves from another action, which could be read backwards. The intro to watching together, in every language, now says that the audio track is shared by default and subtitles are not.

• A resumed video no longer makes the window jump wide and back. Opening a video that picks up where you left off used to stretch the window to a widescreen shape for a moment before it returned to the video’s own; it now takes the right shape straight away.

Over AirPlay, audio tracks and subtitles now switch on the television at once.

When a film with several audio tracks or with text subtitles plays on a television over AirPlay, the player’s audio and subtitle menus now switch what the television plays at once, without reloading — including subtitle files you loaded yourself and dubs from the release’s own folders. Some televisions do not take a picture in 4K or HDR this way; the player then notices, shows the film in its original quality instead, and remembers that for that television. A new gear beside the AirPlay row lets you choose between this automatic behaviour, always tracks and subtitles, and always the original quality, and shows what each television has been found not to take.

When a film with several audio tracks plays over AirPlay, the television now plays the one you picked in the player, including a dub that sits in a separate file in the release’s own folders. Switching tracks restarts playback on the television for a few seconds. Subtitles cannot be sent over AirPlay yet: while a film plays on a television that way, the subtitle menu says so instead of offering choices that would change nothing there.

Report a problem from the settings: the player gathers its logs, takes out anything personal, and shows you the whole report before you send it.

New

• Report a problem with one button. Settings → Report a problem collects what a bug report needs — the version, the system, the settings, the player’s logs and mpv’s — and shows all of it before anything happens. Paths, file names, links, network addresses, device names and identifiers are replaced first; you can then copy the report, save it to a file, or open a new issue on GitHub and attach it. A verbose log can be switched on next to it to record the conversation with a TV in detail: turn it on, reproduce the problem, collect the report. It switches itself off when the player restarts.

The mute button always mutes, and AirPlay no longer shows a spinner over a film that is playing.

• AirPlay no longer shows a loading spinner over a film that is playing. With some televisions the casting screen kept its spinner up for the whole time a film played over AirPlay, as if it were still loading. It now goes away as soon as the television is actually playing.
• The mute button always mutes. Clicking the sound button could say “Sound: off” and leave the sound playing. It now always switches the sound, and when the sound is sent undecoded to an AV receiver — where the player’s volume has no effect — it says that the volume is on the receiver instead.

A Mac can now play on an Apple TV or an AirPlay television, straight from the cast menu.

Pick a television and it plays the file itself while the player becomes its remote: pause, play and seeking work from the window, and disconnecting carries on in the player from the same moment. If nothing starts, the player says so and suggests checking that AirPlay is turned on in the television’s settings. AirPlay is not available on Windows.

Improvements and fixes

• The cast menu shows what kind of device each row is. Each television, streaming box and speaker in the cast menu now has an icon, taken from what the device itself announces, and so does the device you are casting to. Google Nest speakers and other sound-only Cast devices are now recognised as speakers rather than offered as screens.
• Fast frame stepping works on torrents that are still downloading. Stepping back frame by frame is now quick on a torrent before it has finished, for everything that has already arrived — which includes anything you have just watched. Where the earlier part has not downloaded yet, stepping falls back to the slower way, and if a step has to wait for the torrent the player says so instead of appearing to hang.

The player now says which version it is and links to its website and to the project on GitHub.

• The HDR setting explains itself on a Mac. Its hint used to say that Windows HDR has to be on; on a Mac it now says what HDR output actually needs there, brightness headroom on the display.
• Subtitle search finds Chinese, Portuguese and Azerbaijani subtitles. Searching in any of these three languages used to come back empty, because the subtitle site names each of them by region or script. Chinese now finds both Simplified and Traditional subtitles.

Fast frame-by-frame stepping now works on 4K videos and on torrents that have finished downloading.

• Fast frame stepping now covers 4K videos and downloaded torrents. Stepping back frame by frame was still slow on 4K files and on anything opened from the torrent list, because the fast path left both out. It now applies to them too: after a short first wait, each step back takes about as long as a step forward. A torrent qualifies once it has fully downloaded. While you step backward the sound track is switched off, which makes getting started about three times quicker, and it comes back when you press play.

Stepping back one frame at a time is now quick even on videos where it used to take seconds.

New

• Stepping back frame by frame is fast on files that used to crawl. On videos with keyframes seconds apart, typical of downloads from video sites, each step back used to take a second or more. The player now decodes in software while you step, which alone makes a step back several times faster, and on files where it is still slow it decodes the stretch back to the keyframe once and keeps it in memory, so every step after that is instant. Hardware decoding comes back when you press play, which can take up to a second and a half on those same files. The memory this uses is capped at a quarter of your machine’s, and it can be switched off under Settings → Video.

The audio and subtitle buttons now show which language is playing and whether a file has subtitles.

New

• The audio and subtitle buttons say what is playing. A small tag on the audio button shows the language of the track you hear, or how many are mixed together. The subtitle button shows how many subtitle tracks the file has while they are off, and the language once one is on; with no subtitles at all it stays plain. Hovering either button names the track and where it sits among the others, and the tags carry over to the playback panel when the window is too narrow for the buttons.

On Windows with display scaling, the "Size" window option now opens videos pixel for pixel, as mpv does.

• “Size” opens the window pixel for pixel on Windows. With display scaling above 100 %, the “Size” choice and the 50/100/200 % window sizes made the window larger than the video by the scaling factor: at 175 %, a 1280×688 film opened in a window about 2240 pixels wide. On Windows they now count screen pixels, so the film opens at exactly 1280×688, as it does in mpv, and the picture is shown without being rescaled. On macOS nothing changes.

The window can now open at the video's own resolution, the way mpv does.

• The window can open at the video’s own size. “Window to video” now has three choices: Off, Aspect (the window keeps its size and takes the video’s shape, as before) and Size, which opens the window at the video’s resolution, the way mpv does. • The player says once that it was installed. On its very first start, a new installation sends one request to the Frame Player site saying whether it runs on Windows or macOS, so the site can show how many people have installed it. Nothing else is sent: no identifier, no files, nothing about what you watch, and the request is never repeated. Installations from before this release do not send it.

The player now starts on Windows computers without a Vulkan driver, and says why when it cannot start at all.

On a virtual machine, a computer whose graphics driver is not installed, or one with an older graphics card, the player stopped at “Could not start mpv” and told you to look for files in a folder that does not exist in an installed copy. It now brings the one missing system component with it, and if the player still cannot start, the message names the file Windows could not load and why.

While watching together, a pause or a seek pressed at the wrong moment could make the whole room play slightly fast — 1.04×, then 1.14× — without anybody having changed the speed.

Opening a release from the catalog, or a torrent from “continue watching”, could leave the window black — no controls, no loading note — until the first frame arrived. The loading note and the controls now stay up for the whole wait.

A slow device on the network no longer hides DLNA televisions.

When something on the network announced itself and then did not answer, such as a NAS reachable at only one of its addresses, the cast picker could keep saying it was still searching and never list a television that had answered at once. Each television now appears as soon as it has answered, whatever the others do.

DLNA televisions show up in the cast picker again on macOS.

• The file’s audio delay no longer flickers while you tune the speaker’s offset. Pressing − or + on the output device’s offset in the audio menu made the file’s own delay above it jump by the same step for a moment and back. It now stays put.

The installer now offers a checkbox on the page where you choose the folder: keep settings and watch history in that folder rather than in your user profile.

Move the folder and the player moves with it, remembering every position and every chosen audio track. It updates itself the same way the installed version does, by replacing its own files. Two things are worth knowing: it registers itself for video files and for watch-together invitation links, because Windows offers no way to do that from inside a folder — there is a switch in Settings if you would rather it did not, and turning it off puts back whatever was there before — and if the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is missing from the computer, the player installs it on first run, though it is already present on essentially every Windows 10 and 11.

Watch-together rooms show how well each person keeps up, and Bluetooth speakers get an audio offset of their own.

• An audio offset for each speaker and pair of headphones. Bluetooth speakers and headphones play sound a little late, and the picture runs ahead of it. The audio menu now has a second offset under the file’s delay, kept for the device the sound is going to: set it once for your speaker and it applies to every video while that speaker is connected, and goes away when the sound moves back to the built-in speakers.
• See how well everybody in a room is keeping up. A dot beside each name in a watch-together room says whether that person is in step: green when all is well, yellow or red when their connection is slow or uneven, or when their playback keeps slipping behind because the source cannot keep up. Hover it to see which, and on your own row the ping to the room server.

The player now downloads the new version and replaces its own files, then reopens the window where you left off.

Holding Shift while rolling the mouse wheel now seeks through the film, a gesture that used to need a trackpad.

• Seeking with the wheel now works on a mouse. Scrolling sideways over the picture moves through the film — a gesture a trackpad can make and a mouse cannot. Holding Shift while rolling the wheel is now the same thing: one notch is five seconds, down for forward and up for back.

Cleaner start: no wrapped labels on the start screen and no blink when resuming a video.

• Opening from “Continue watching” no longer blinks. The controls and the “Resuming” note used to appear, vanish at once while the window took the video’s shape, and fade back in. They now come in once, after the window has settled.

• Play several audio tracks at once. The audio menu has a “Several tracks” switch: with it on, ticking tracks makes them play together, each at its own level — for a recording that keeps the game, the microphone and a call in separate tracks. The next file opens on one track as usual.

Audio tracks shipped beside the video are now picked up the way subtitles already were, and both are found in nested folders such as one per studio or subtitle group. Each one is named after its folder in the track menu, and the choice is remembered for the rest of the season.
• Choose whether the seekbar preview switches to the exact frame. When the cursor rests over the seekbar, the preview changes to the frame a click would land on. That can now be turned off in the settings to keep the nearest storyboard frame instead.

• Uses about 200 MB less memory while a video plays. Once the controls have faded out they are no longer drawn at all. Until now they were only made transparent, so the seekbar kept being redrawn on every frame of the video. On macOS that alone held around 200 MB of graphics memory for as long as the film played. On macOS the player also no longer keeps a hidden helper window that only Windows needs.
• Torrents use up to 500 MB less memory during long playback. A torrent no longer keeps hundreds of megabytes of already-watched video in memory for seeking back, since those parts are on disk anyway. On a 4K episode that saved about 500 MB after a few minutes of playback. Streams from links keep the larger buffer, where seeking back would otherwise download again.

A way to see the last frame past the end screen, and a say in how soon the controls hide.

• The end screen can be put away to see the last frame. A Hide button under the cards, or Escape, uncovers the final frame of the video and stops the countdown to the next one. The cards come back at the next ending.

• End-of-video cards keep their edges over a black frame. They used to dissolve into a dark final frame, especially when there was no picture to show for them; they now carry an outline and a shadow that read on dark and bright frames alike.

The catalog searches releases through your own Jackett or Prowlarr, and resizing the window no longer shows the desktop through its edge on Windows.

• Resizing the window no longer leaves a see-through edge on Windows. Dragging a window edge used to show a strip along it that the picture had not reached yet — the desktop, or a smeared copy of the frame — because the video layer was a step behind the window. It now keeps up with the edge, and a fast drag leaves nothing behind.

The player is a proper Now Playing app on macOS, and the keyboard stays with it after fullscreen.

A trackpad pinch resizes the window on macOS, and zooming with one follows the fingers.

Zooming into the picture stays on ⌥ + pinch and Ctrl + wheel, and a pinch in fullscreen or in the mini player still zooms. Settings → General has a switch to give the pinch back to the zoom.

• Zooming with a pinch follows the fingers. A pinch used to zoom the picture by a fixed step for every one of the dozens of events a gesture sends, so any pinch ran straight to 800 %. It now zooms by exactly as much as the fingers spread or closed; a mouse wheel still zooms in steps.

Switching to and from fullscreen on macOS is now a clean fade through black, and the window comes back exactly where it was.

• Move the window from the end screen. When a video has finished, the window can again be dragged by the area around the replay and next-video buttons. Dragging does not cancel the countdown to the next video.
• The window returns to its place after fullscreen. Leaving fullscreen on macOS, especially after entering it with a double click on the video, could move the window to the left edge of the screen. It now comes back exactly where it was.
• Cleaner switch to and from fullscreen on macOS. The window now goes black for the length of the fullscreen animation and the picture fades back once it has settled. The video no longer stretches for a moment, and the title bar no longer shows up twice or as a strip across the screen during the switch.

Long lists above the control bar now fade out at their edges, so you can see there is more to scroll.

• Rotated videos. A video that is rotated, such as a phone clip shot upright, now gets an upright window instead of a wide one with the picture in the middle.

Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation and gamma for one file, a whole playlist or every file, and crop once for a whole series.

• Brightness and color. A new Picture panel in the context menu has sliders for brightness, contrast, saturation and gamma. While you drag one, the menus turn see-through so you can judge the picture. Double-click a slider to reset it.
• Apply to a file, a playlist or all files. Each adjustment can be kept for this file only, for every file in its folder or torrent, or for all files. The narrowest one wins, and if a wider choice would overwrite existing values, the player asks which to keep. Defaults for all files can also be set under Settings, Video.
• Picture hotkeys. New actions raise and lower each of the four values and reset them all. They have no keys by default except C, which opens the picture settings.

Improvements and fixes

• Crop follows the playlist. The crop mode now applies to the whole playlist, while Auto still measures the bars of each file separately, so episodes share the choice without inheriting each other’s bars.
• Auto crop for torrents. Auto crop now works on a torrent that is still downloading, using the part already on disk. If too little has arrived, the player says so.

Crop black bars baked into a video, automatically or to a chosen shape, and set your own seek step lengths.

New

• Crop black bars. The context menu has a Crop option that removes black bars baked into the picture. Auto looks for bars in frames from across the whole file; you can also pick 2.39, 1.85 or 4:3. The choice is remembered for each file, and hover previews on the seekbar are cropped to match. Auto works only for files on disk.
• Adjustable seek steps. The short and long seek steps are no longer fixed at 5 and 10 seconds. Settings lets you pick the short step from 1 to 10 seconds and the long one from 10 to 60, and the hotkey labels and menus show the values you chose.

The cursor now has its own hide setting, so it can disappear while the controls stay on screen.

Improvements and fixes

• Hide the cursor on its own. The cursor switch is now a setting with three choices: With the controls, Always and Never. “Always” hides the cursor after a second of rest even when the controls are set to stay visible. It never hides over the controls or in a dialog.

Move the playing file to the Trash, match QuickTime's SDR color on macOS, and choose when the controls hide.

New

• Move file to Trash. A new action sends the file that is playing to the Trash on macOS or the Recycle Bin on Windows, where it can be restored. It works only for files on disk, has no key by default, and can be bound in the hotkey settings.
• SDR video color on macOS. A new video setting, “As in macOS”, draws shadows and midtones lighter, the way QuickTime does. “As in mpv” keeps the previous look. HDR video is not affected.
• Choose when the controls hide. The “Hide the controls” setting offers Always, In fullscreen or Never. The mini player counts as fullscreen. A second switch decides whether the cursor hides together with the controls.

Fixes a crash when entering fullscreen on macOS 26.

Improvements and fixes

• Fullscreen on macOS 26. Entering fullscreen could crash the player on macOS 26. The title bar is now prepared before the transition starts, and a similar problem in future would no longer close the player.

Fixes a slow launch with a remembered window size, the mini player snapping mid-drag, and the seekbar preview in small windows.

• Faster launch. With “remember size and position” on, the window could take about three seconds to appear. It now shows as soon as it is ready.
• Mini player snaps on release. The mini player snaps to a screen edge only once you let go of the mouse, not when you pause mid-drag.
• Seekbar preview in small windows. The hover preview shrinks to fit a small mini player, and shows only the time when there is no room, instead of running off the top of the window.
• Seekbar alignment. The seekbar and timestamps now line up with the same edge as the other controls.

Maintenance release with no changes to the player itself.

Torrents can now bypass a VPN and download over your own connection while everything else stays in the tunnel.

New

• Torrent route. A new setting chooses which connection torrents use: Auto (the system decides, which means through the VPN when one is on), Bypass VPN (the computer’s own Wi-Fi or cable connection), or a specific network interface. Everything other than torrents stays in the VPN. The settings list the available connections and warn that outside the VPN peers see your real IP address.
• VPN question. When traffic goes through a VPN, the first torrent of each run asks whether to download through the VPN or bypass it, with an option to remember the choice. It can be turned off with “Ask about the VPN”.
• No silent fallback. If the chosen connection is not available, the torrent does not start and the player says so, rather than quietly going through the VPN.

Subtitles made for a different frame rate can now be stretched to fit the video instead of drifting further out of sync.

New

• Fit subtitles to the frame rate. Subtitles made for 25 fps on a 23.976 fps video drift further from the speech the longer you watch, which a delay cannot fix. When a downloaded subtitle’s frame rate differs from the video’s, the player offers to fit it. The subtitle menu also has a Frame rate section with common conversions (25 → 23.976, 23.976 → 25, 24 → 23.976) for any text subtitle. The choice is remembered for each video.

Improvements and fixes

• Interface engine version in settings. The settings footer now shows the WebView2 version on Windows or the WebKit version on macOS, which helps when the interface draws incorrectly over the video.

TV search now also asks devices on the local network directly, for routers that do not pass discovery traffic between Wi-Fi bands.

Improvements and fixes

• Finding TVs on more networks. Chromecast and DLNA discovery relied only on multicast, which some routers do not carry between wired, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz networks, leaving the TV list empty. Each search now also contacts recently used TVs and then every device on the local network directly. VPN tunnels and virtual-machine networks are skipped.

A torrent that was playing when the player updated itself now resumes properly after the restart.

Improvements and fixes

• Torrents resume after an update. A torrent playing when an update was installed used to hang on “opening the link” after the restart and then show an error. It now reopens and continues where you were; if it cannot, the start screen appears instead.
• Quieter queue. Rows in the queue and their remove buttons no longer show tooltips.

The Back row in folded control-bar panels now matches the rest of the panel instead of looking darker.

Buttons and sliders show a pointer cursor, and the time above the seekbar is easier to read over bright video.

The folded control-bar menu is now a gear called Playback options, and its panels have a Back row.

• Playback options. The button that holds the folded controls is now a gear with the tooltip “Playback options” instead of three dots.
• Back row in folded panels. When the bar is folded, the queue, chapter, track and TV panels start with a “Back” row that returns to the playback options.

In a narrow window, the control bar now folds its right-hand buttons into one menu so play stays centered.

• Control bar folds in narrow windows. When the buttons on the right of the control bar would push play, previous and next off center, they fold into a single button that opens them as a menu. The point where this happens depends on how many buttons the current file needs, not on a fixed window width.

The queue, chapter, track and TV panels no longer sit on top of the timestamps above the seekbar.

• Panel placement. The queue, chapters, audio and subtitle tracks and the TV picker now open just above the control bar with the same gap as the timestamps, instead of overlapping them.

• Large torrents on macOS. A torrent with many files could use up the number of files macOS lets an app keep open, after which videos silently stopped playing until the player was restarted. The player now raises that limit at launch and opens a torrent’s files only as they are needed.

A torrent's RSS feed can now be opened like a magnet link, and the player notices when a new episode is uploaded.

New

• RSS feeds for torrents. Paste a tracker’s RSS feed for a release into the link box instead of a magnet link. If the feed holds several torrents, you choose one; the player remembers the feed.
• New episodes are noticed. For a torrent opened from a feed, the start screen’s torrent list marks it with RSS and shows “Newer upload out” when the tracker has published a re-upload with more episodes. Updating keeps the episodes already downloaded and your watch history.
• Feeds for existing torrents. The update dialog also accepts a feed, so a torrent added by magnet can be switched to following its RSS feed from then on.

Torrents can now go through a SOCKS5 proxy and use encrypted connections, for networks that block BitTorrent.

New

• SOCKS5 proxy for torrents. A new setting sends peer connections and tracker announces through a SOCKS5 proxy, a way to get torrent traffic past a network that blocks it by destination. The DHT and UDP trackers stay outside the proxy.
• Encrypted torrent connections. Connection encryption can be set to Off, When possible or Encrypted only. It helps where a provider cuts BitTorrent by recognizing the protocol; “When possible” still talks to peers that cannot encrypt, so it never makes things worse.

Improvements and fixes

• Updated torrent engine. The built-in torrent client moves to a newer version, which is what makes the proxy and encryption settings possible.
• Settings apply straight away. Changing the proxy or the encryption mode closes the torrent that is playing and says so, since the new setting only takes effect on a fresh connection.

Rooms show what each member is stuck on, guests find torrents faster, and a torrent with no reachable peers explains the likely cause.

Improvements and fixes

• Member status in a room. Each member can now show “opening”, “failed” or “no copy”, so everyone can see who is holding the room up and why. If opening the room’s film fails, a “Try again” button appears.
• Guests find the torrent faster. A torrent shared through a room now carries its trackers, so guests on networks that block the DHT can still find peers.
• Why a torrent is not connecting. When no peers answer, or peers are found but no connection is made, the loading panel now says that a VPN or an internet provider blocking BitTorrent is the usual cause.
• Accurate error for torrent streams. When a torrent file cannot be read because its data never arrived, the error now says so instead of suggesting yt-dlp is out of date.

Clearer waiting and failure messages for torrents and watch together, reliable torrent deletion, and a visible warning when mpv.conf is rejected.

Improvements and fixes

• Loading shows how long it has been. While a magnet link is being resolved, or while the room’s film is being opened, the loading panel shows the seconds elapsed, so a slow start does not look like a frozen player. The hint now says that finding the file list can take up to a minute and a half.
• Watch together says why. When the player cannot open what the room is watching, the room panel now gives the reason. A member whose torrent never actually starts playing is no longer counted as ready, so the room does not run ahead of them.
• Deleting a torrent always finishes. Deleting a torrent right after leaving it, or one still resolving, could leave the delete button doing nothing. It now completes, and if something does go wrong it says what.
• Rejected mpv.conf is reported. If mpv refuses a setting in your mpv.conf, the whole file is skipped. The player now shows a popup at startup and a note in Settings with mpv’s own message.
• Settings tabs stay in view. The title and tab row stay pinned while the settings scroll, switching tabs starts at the top, and the current tab is always scrolled into view.

Episodes of a torrent now share your audio and subtitle choice, just like files in the same folder.

Improvements and fixes

• Dub choice carries across a torrent season. The audio track and subtitles you pick for one episode of a torrent are now used for the next episodes too. Before, each episode started over, and on releases with several dubs in one language the wrong one was often chosen.
• Forgetting a torrent forgets its track choice. Removing a torrent from the history also removes the dub remembered for it.

Media info now records dropped frames even while the panel is closed and shows when the whole player froze.

Improvements and fixes

• Dropped frames are always recorded. The dropped-frame counters in media info now note when they last changed even if the panel was closed at the time.
• Process stalls. A new row shows the last time the whole player was briefly stopped and the longest such stop. Read next to the dropped frames, it tells whether a hitch came from video playback or from the computer being busy.

The media info panel gains a Playback section for diagnosing stutter and dropped frames.

New

• Playback details in media info. The media info panel now shows A/V sync, the actual frame rate, frames dropped by the decoder and by the output, delayed frames and how much is buffered ahead. Counters that moved show how long ago, so a recent hitch can be told apart from an old one.

More accurate colors and brightness in seekbar previews of Dolby Vision videos.

Improvements and fixes

• Dolby Vision previews, refined. Greens in previews of Dolby Vision profile 5 videos are now green rather than reddish, and dark scenes stay dark instead of turning a flat gray. Previews made by the previous version are regenerated.

Seekbar previews of HDR and Dolby Vision videos now show the right colors.

Improvements and fixes

• Correct colors in HDR previews. Seekbar previews of HDR10 and HLG videos are now converted properly and no longer look washed out or off in hue. Ordinary videos are slightly more accurate too.
• Dolby Vision previews are no longer pink. Previews of Dolby Vision profile 5 videos now show close to the real colors. This affects only the previews; playback and saved frames were already correct.
• Leaving a torrent that has not started. Going back to the start screen while a torrent is still looking for peers no longer leaves the loading message on screen.

Removing something from the history now really removes it, and "Clear history" clears everything it should.

Improvements and fixes

• Removed items stay removed. Removing a torrent episode or a link from the start screen history no longer brings it back the next time the start screen is shown or the player starts.
• Clearing history is complete. “Clear history” now also removes remembered titles, remembered track choices and the list of downloaded subtitles. Deleting a torrent now also removes the saved positions of its episodes.
• Messages above dialogs. Confirmation popups, such as the space freed after clearing the torrent cache, now appear above an open dialog instead of dimmed behind it.
• Catalog button. The outline of the Catalog button on the start screen now renders cleanly on Windows.

Filter catalog releases by quality and seeds, and let a season from the catalog find its own updated torrent.

New

• Release filters. In the catalog you can now set a minimum quality, hide releases nobody is seeding, and sort by size as well as by quality or seeds. If the filters hide everything, the panel says how many releases they hid.
• Automatic torrent updates. For a season opened from the catalog, “Update torrent” now looks for the newer upload of the same release by itself. For a torrent opened any other way, it still asks you to paste the new link.

The catalog shows placeholders while it loads, says clearly when it is unavailable, and can get a new default release search without an update.

Improvements and fixes

• Catalog loading. Posters and releases now show placeholders while they load instead of an empty panel.
• Clear when unavailable. When the catalog service is down, the panel says so rather than failing silently.
• Default release search. When you have not set your own release search service, the default is now provided by the catalog service, so it can change without installing a new version. Your own setting always takes priority.
• TMDB attribution. The catalog now shows the TMDB logo alongside its notice.

A film and series catalog on the start screen, with posters, descriptions and a list of releases to stream.

• Catalog. A new “Catalog” button on the start screen lets you search for a film or series, or browse what is trending now. Titles come with posters, descriptions and, for series, a list of seasons.
• Releases to stream. Choosing a title lists the torrent releases found for it with quality and seeds, sorted by quality or by seeds; your choice of order is remembered. A release opens like any other torrent.
• Catalog settings. The catalog can be turned off in Settings, and both the metadata service and the release search service can point at your own instances. Both services see what you search for, which the settings say plainly.

A tidier torrent folder setting and a delete menu that no longer shifts the start screen list.

Improvements and fixes

• Torrent folder setting. The folder now appears as a field with “Choose” and “Reset” inside it, and a long path is shortened from the start so the folder name stays visible.
• Delete menu on the start screen. Deleting a torrent now opens a small menu beside its row instead of expanding the row, so the list no longer moves under the pointer while you choose.

Choose where torrents are saved, delete only the episodes you have watched, and see finished episodes marked in the file list.

New

• Choose where torrents are saved. Settings now has a folder for downloaded torrents. By default they go to the app’s cache folder, which the system may empty. Changing it moves nothing: torrents already downloaded stay where they are and keep opening.
• Delete watched episodes. Deleting a torrent from the start screen now asks what to remove: only the episodes you have watched to the end, or everything. The rest of the season stays and plays immediately.
• Watched episodes are marked. In a torrent’s file list, episodes you have finished show a tick and a dimmer name, so a season of similar names is easy to navigate.

• Safer deletion in your own folder. When you have chosen a folder, deleting torrent data removes only what the player downloaded there.
• Clearing history is complete. “Clear history” in Settings now also removes the remembered links of torrents you have opened.

Torrent folders on disk are now named after the torrent, so you can tell them apart in a file manager.

• Readable torrent folders. Downloaded torrents are now stored in folders named after the torrent instead of a long code. Existing folders are renamed the next time you open that torrent, which costs a one-time check of the downloaded data.
• Names safe on every system. Torrent names with characters that are not allowed in file names, or that are very long, are cleaned up so the folder works on both Windows and macOS.
• Invitation page. The room invitation page now always offers a download link for visitors who do not have the player, and its text wraps more cleanly.

The room chip in the top bar now opens the room panel, and the member list is easier to read.

• Room chip opens the room. The room indicator in the top bar is now a button that shows who is in the room and its rules. It stays visible while the pointer rests on it.
• Clearer member list. The room panel shows how many people are in the room and lists them as separate rows.
• Copy confirmation. “Copied” now appears on the button you pressed, the code or the link, rather than always on the code.
• Better invitation page. The web page a room link opens now appears in the visitor’s language and offers the right installer for their system when they do not have the player yet.

Torrents no longer reserve disk space for episodes you have not opened on Windows, and watch together behaves better in an empty room.

• Show torrent files. Each torrent on the start screen can now reveal its folder in Explorer or Finder.

• Torrents take only the space they use. On Windows, opening a season used to reserve the full size of every episode on disk straight away. Files now grow only as they are downloaded.
• Watch together alone. A film no longer plays slightly fast when you are the only one in a room, and creating a room from the start screen no longer says it is waiting for you.
• More precise pauses in a room. Pausing or changing speed now shares the exact position, so others stop on the same frame rather than slightly behind.

• Watch together. Choose “Watch together…” in the context menu to create a room, then send its code or link to the others. Position, pause and speed are shared; volume, tracks and the window stay your own. Only the position and pause travel through the room server, never the video.
• Invitation links. A room link opens Frame Player and joins the room directly, on both Windows and macOS.
• Room rules. The host can let only themselves control playback, and can choose whether the audio track and the subtitles are shared. A shared track is matched by its description, so it works even when people have different rips.
• Nobody is left behind. The room pauses while anyone is still loading and shows who it is waiting for. Small drift between viewers is corrected by briefly adjusting speed rather than jumping.
• Checking you have the same file. When you open your own copy of what the room is watching, the room tells you whether it is the same release, a different rip whose timing may drift a little, or a different file. A file in a hidden folder never has its name sent to the room.
• Room server setting. Settings → General has an address for the room server, for anyone who runs their own.

Casting over DLNA works with more TV brands, and clearing the watch history now removes everything it should.

Improvements and fixes

• More DLNA TVs. The player now understands the different ways TVs name the same video formats and describe themselves, so files are no longer refused by TVs that spell them differently.
• Router port check. Checking whether the router opened the torrent port works with more routers.
• Clearing history clears everything. Clearing the watch history, or excluding a folder, now also removes remembered video titles, remembered track choices and the list of downloaded subtitles, which were left behind before.

While casting, chapters, the skip button and number-key jumps follow the TV, and lists no longer show stale results.

• Casting controls follow the TV. While a video plays on the TV, the chapter list, the skip button and jumps with the number keys now use the TV’s position instead of the moment casting began.
• No stale lists. Track, chapter and queue lists, the recent videos and the torrent readout could occasionally show results for a file that was no longer open. The newest answer now always wins.

Large files start on slow DLNA TVs instead of failing, and the Windows taskbar follows playback on the TV.

Improvements and fixes

• Large files on DLNA TVs. Some TVs take many seconds to start a large file, and the player gave up too early with “The TV could not open this file”. It now waits while the TV is still getting ready.
• Taskbar progress while casting. On Windows the taskbar progress bar now follows the TV’s position and pause state instead of freezing when casting starts.

An option to accept incoming torrent connections through your router, and subtitles that move up out of the way of the controls.

New

• Accept incoming connections. A new torrent setting asks your router to open a port for the player (UPnP), so peers that could not reach you before can connect. It is off by default, and the setting shows whether the router actually opened the port.

Improvements and fixes

• Subtitles stay readable. While the control bar is on screen, subtitles move up above it instead of hiding behind the seekbar.

Magnet links that used to time out now open in about a second, and trackers supply peers reliably.

• Magnet links open quickly. A magnet link now asks its own trackers for peers straight away, so a link that could time out after 90 seconds now opens in about a second.
• Trackers work everywhere. Many trackers refused the player’s requests or sent replies it could not read, so the peers they listed were lost. Both problems are fixed on every platform.
• Going back to the start screen. Closing a torrent now stops its download and removes the download readout from the start screen right away.
• Link dialog starts empty. Opening the link dialog no longer shows the previous link and old error, and the dialog closes once a torrent’s file list appears.

The skip button now recognizes trailer chapters and more ways of naming a recap.

Improvements and fixes

• Skip trailer. A chapter called “Trailer” now gets its own “Skip trailer” button instead of being treated as a preview of the next episode.
• More recaps recognized. Chapters titled “Re-cap” or “Рекап” now offer the recap skip button.

Deleted torrents no longer come back after a restart, and downloaded torrents show their real names.

Improvements and fixes

• Deleted torrents stay deleted. A torrent removed from the list could reappear as an empty copy after the player was restarted. It is now removed for good.
• Torrent names. Downloaded torrents in the list show the release’s own name, and any torrent on disk can be opened again from there.
• Smoother scroll fade. The fade at the bottom of scrolling lists no longer flickers when the list changes.

Frame Player 1.0. The macOS version is now signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without any security warning.

• Opens normally on macOS. The macOS app and disk image are signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized, so macOS opens it like any other app instead of asking you to allow it in System Settings. The Windows installer is not signed yet and still shows a SmartScreen warning on first run.

Dialogs and lists that scroll now show a fade and an arrow at the bottom when there is more below.

• More below. Settings, subtitle search results, the torrent file list, recent links and the language list now fade out at the bottom with an arrow when there is more to scroll.

Seekbar previews go easier on the battery and pause while casting, and the licenses of the player and its libraries are now viewable in the settings.

• Excluded folders on Windows. A folder excluded from the watch history now matches its files regardless of which way the slashes in the path point.

Finding a TV now keeps going while you answer the system's network permission prompt instead of giving up.

• Network permission prompts. On macOS, and with a firewall on Windows, the device search no longer reports failure while the system is asking for permission to use the local network. It explains what to allow and keeps searching, so the TV appears on its own once access is granted.

Play videos on your TV over Chromecast or DLNA, with the player window acting as the remote control.

New

• Watch on TV. Send the playing video to a Chromecast or a DLNA television on your network. While it plays there, the window works as a remote: play, pause, seeking, volume and the queue all control the TV, and disconnecting continues playback here from the same moment.
• Two ways to reach a TV. The player picks the best route automatically. Over DLNA many TVs play the file exactly as it is, with every track; for Chromecast a file the TV cannot open is prepared first or streamed with stereo sound. Each device’s settings let you choose the route yourself.
• Torrents on the TV. A torrent that is still downloading can be sent to a DLNA TV once enough of it has arrived ahead of playback.
• Device check. If casting does not work, a check tests the network and the device step by step and gives you a report you can copy. It does not play anything.
• Prepared copies cache. Files prepared for a TV can be kept so the next cast starts instantly, with a size limit and a button to clear them in the new TV settings tab.

Improvements and fixes

• Posters for torrent episodes. Episodes watched from a torrent now get a poster on the start screen while they are still downloading.
• Folder queues on Windows. The queue is built correctly even when paths differ only in letter case or slash direction.

The settings window no longer shifts its close button when switching between short and long tabs.

• Steady settings layout. The close button and other right-aligned items in the settings window no longer jump sideways when a tab is long enough to scroll.

Torrents find peers far more reliably, especially on Windows and on trackers that use personal announce links.

• Faster reopening of torrents. A torrent you have opened before no longer re-checks all its data every time, which could take seconds on a large season.
• Torrents stay idle until you ask. Torrents from the previous session are no longer reconnected to peers when the player starts; nothing is downloaded until you open one.
• Seeding switch. Changing the seeding setting could leave the player unable to open any torrent until it was restarted. That is fixed.
• Stuck tooltips. A tooltip could stay on screen, sometimes in the top-left corner, after the element under it disappeared, for example when playback started from the start screen.

Small layout fixes across dialogs and menus, and tooltips on start-screen cards that no longer cover the poster.

Improvements and fixes

• Consistent sizing. Several dialogs, menus, buttons and popups had edges a few pixels off or content that overflowed its box. They now line up.
• Tooltips on the start screen. Tooltips for recent videos now appear below the card instead of covering its poster.

The "Next episode" button no longer appears over the credits of a file that has no next episode.

Improvements and fixes

• No false “Next episode”. On the last chapter of a single file with repeat turned on, the skip button offered a “Next episode” that restarted the same file. It now appears only when there really is a different file next.
• Queue position stays correct. The player now recovers its place in the queue if it ever loses track of it, which kept the end screen and auto-advance pointing at the right file.

Open .torrent files as easily as magnet links, and choose any number of preferred audio and subtitle languages in priority order.

New

• .torrent files. A .torrent file can be dropped on the window or picked from the link dialog, now called “Link or torrent”. Once opened it is remembered as a magnet link, so it keeps working after the file itself is deleted.
• Any language, in order of preference. Preferred audio and subtitle languages are no longer limited to Russian and English: add as many as you like from a searchable list and put them in priority order.
• Subtitles with familiar audio. A new setting decides what happens when the audio is already in one of your subtitle languages: show subtitles, show only forced ones, or show none.
• Subtitle search follows your languages. The language filter in subtitle search now offers your preferred subtitle languages instead of a fixed Russian and English.

Improvements and fixes

• Recent links. A link can be removed from the recent list without deleting any torrent data behind it.
• Readable link tooltips. Links with non-Latin characters are shown as readable text rather than percent-encoded strings.
• Deleting torrents. A downloaded torrent can now be deleted from the list after it has been watched, unless it is the one currently playing.

The first public release of Frame Player, a video player for Windows and macOS built on mpv, with torrent streaming, skip buttons and exact seekbar previews.

New

• Plays almost anything. Decoding comes from mpv and FFmpeg, with hardware acceleration, 10-bit video, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision profiles 5 and 8.
• Local files, links and torrents in one window. Open files, paste a link to a stream or a page yt-dlp understands, or paste a magnet link and start watching while it downloads. Seeding is off by default.
• Seekbar previews. Hovering the seekbar shows thumbnails, and when the cursor stops the preview sharpens to the exact frame you would land on.
• Chapters and a skip button. A chapter list, plus a button to skip openings, recaps, previews, credits and ads.
• Subtitle search. Find subtitles on OpenSubtitles by the file’s own fingerprint, with a title search as the fallback.
• Resume anywhere. Files, links and torrent episodes reopen where you stopped, from a start screen of unfinished videos. Your choice of audio and subtitle track carries over to the next episode.
• Playback tools. Frame stepping in both directions, an A–B loop, repeat modes, playback speed, zoom and pan, frame export, and a live media info panel.
• A queue from the folder. Opening one file queues the rest of its folder in natural order.
• Mini player. A small always-on-top window that snaps to the screen corners and, on macOS, floats over other apps in fullscreen.
• Yours to configure. Every hotkey can be rebound and works in any keyboard layout, the settings dialog writes to your own mpv.conf, and folders can be kept out of the watch history.
• Automatic updates. The player offers signed updates and reopens the current video at the same position afterwards. The interface is in English and Russian.
